Montague Villages Welcomes New Volunteers
July 13, 2024
Articles in the paper and information sessions are encouraging more people to join Montague Villages as volunteers and members. Recently, Nancy Crowell and Jill Ingham have stepped forward.
Nancy Crowell has lived in Millers Falls since 1979. Since she retired, she has volunteered for the Friends of Montague Libraries, become a member of the Millers Falls Community Improvement Association as well as a Town meeting member and a library trustee. She said, “I heard about Montague Villages and thought it was a great idea. There are so many of us from the Baby Boomer generation who want to age in place, and this seems like part of the solution to helping people do just that. Nancy is still physically active; she enjoys hiking, walking, yoga, and kayaking, and she said, “I feel I can start my association with Montague Villages providing transportation and helping with shopping and minor household tasks.”
Jill Ingham who moved with her husband from Greenfield to Turners Falls in 2014, said that her interest began with an article in the Montague Reporter. Then she met some of the people who were already involved at a Town Meeting in 2023 and decided t get involved in helping seniors in her community. She has deep roots in Montague. Her grandfather Carl Sauter was born in Turners Falls and she spent many summers with her cousins at her a cottage on Lake Pleasant that belonged to her maternal great grandfather, Frank C. Bryant. She said, “MY family names were placed on the Bridge of Names when it was first built, including my Great Great Grandmother Almina Bede and Bryant Bishop.” Her other volunteer activities include being a Town Meeting member for precinct 2 and a member of the Ritual Committee at her place of worship.
